At Our Land of Promise, we are dedicated to preserving and honoring the rich African American heritage of Berea. While we are still in the early stages of our journey and do not have any active programs at this moment, we are actively developing several initiatives to further our mission.
Future Programs:
Community Engagement: We plan to host workshops to educate the community about the history and contributions of African American settlements in Berea.
Youth Involvement: We aim to engage with local school students and offer volunteer opportunities, allowing them to earn service hours while learning about the importance of preserving our heritage. We are still in process of having meetings with local school officials to get their feedback. We are hosting a Middle School Black History Contest in Febreuary and we are also planning some volunteer service hours for cemeteries beautification project in the Spring of 2025
Cemetery Restoration: Continuing our efforts from previous grassroots initiatives, we intend to organize regular cleanups and restorations of local cemeteries. Right now we have been working with our volunteers from the community to hold extensive cemetery cleaning. We have done this the past two years and will be scheduled for our 3rd one in March 2025
Sustainability Workshops: We will offer workshops on sustainability efforts such as gardening, beekeeping, and quilt making, drawing on the traditions and practices of the African American community to promote sustainable living.
Heritage Trails and Exhibits: We envision creating a Black Heritage Community Center or Heritage Walking Trail to provide a public space for everyone to learn and appreciate our local history.
We believe that these programs will play a crucial role in achieving our mission. We invite you to stay connected with us as we develop these initiatives and bring them to life. Your support and involvement are vital to our success.
